Kirsty's Team
Kirsty Henshaw
While I’m just a normal twenty-something mum, I do have a real passion for good food, health and nutrition. I guess this stems from when I suffered with asthma and eczema when I was younger – I heard that dairy products could make these conditions worse, so I cut them out of my diet. When my symptoms totally disappeared, I started to really understand the value of a healthy diet, and how we can enjoy a much better quality of life if we take care of our bodies.
Since then, I’ve never lost my interest in learning more about nutrition; my whole family became vegetarian when I was still quite young and battling with my weight as a teen, I tried all sorts of awful diets. I soon realised that you need to take a balanced view and eat the right things, instead of trying ‘fads’ that just make you feel exhausted and terrible!
When my mum and dad bought a health food shop about 8 years ago, it opened up further opportunities for me to learn more about nutrition and following a healthy diet – and then having a child with allergies and intolerances gave me even more of an incentive to extend my knowledge. I now hold a certificate in nutrition and dietetics and they’re subjects that I live, breathe and sleep! Being a busy mum, working long hours, I’ve come to learn that you can still follow a healthy diet and enjoy all of the benefits of following a nutritious lifestyle, as long as you’re well prepared!
Darren Henshaw
As a father of 4 and a grandad of 1, following a healthy diet is certainly a good idea to give me the energy I need to keep up with them all! I've always been interested in health and nutrition, and I qualified as a homoeopath back in 1999 - I get a great sense of satisfaction out of being able to help people to improve their quality of life.
I have my own health food shop, Aphrodite in Preston, and I’ve been running a homoeopathic clinic for 10 years, including running a low cost clinic in order to make these services more accessible to those in need. I have 10 solid years of experience in supplements, vitamins, minerals, nutrition and Ayurverdic medicine. I've also studied macrobiotics, and all of this experience together has ensured that I’m well qualified to offer comprehensive advice regarding a healthy diet and nutrition as a whole.
In my spare time, I'm a great lover of the outdoors, with a particular affinity for the beautiful Scottish mountains, which I visit as frequently as I'm able to. I love the sense of freedom that the great outdoors can offer, and there's nothing better than getting a good lungful of that wonderful fresh air!
Louise Lloyd
I am delighted to be a part of Kirsty’s team - I’m Louise and I am a paediatric nurse with a background in paediatric allergy . I work along side the UK’s leading allergy guru Professor Gideon Lack at the Portland Hospital, London. I have been nursing for over 12 years and have worked in a variety of children settings since qualifying with BSc (Hons) My interest in allergy started early in my career and 6 years ago I started working within the largest Paediatric Allergy Centre in the UK which was headed up by Prof Lack.
5 years ago I had my daughter and during weaning discovered that she had food allergies, being in the speciality I was lucky and could spot the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction quickly and was able to respond immediately. Since then I have always wanted to be able to help and give advice on food related allergies. I am lucky to work alongside the top UK consultant and therefore am always learning! I have expert knowledge in Food Allergy, Allergic Rhinitis, Asthma and Eczema
I now combine my nurse specialist role with running my own successful business Baby Signing Mummy (www.babysigningmummy.com) where my other passion lies to help parents and babies to communicate in the preverbal stage and beyond - I love child development and watching our babies grow into toddlers, children and young adults. When I am not busy being a nurse or business women I love nothing more than spending time with my beautiful daughter and very supportive husband
Nikki Eagleton
I'm Nikki, the latest member of Kirsty's team. I manage the marketing and social media whilst working closely with Kirsty in the office. Since working with Kirsty and her team I have learnt so much about nutrition, diet, supplements and vitamins, I never imagined there would be so many different types! I have always been a keen amateur chef but now I experiment with much more nutritious ingredients and we always have a nice and interesting lunch in here too!
As well as my love for marketing and communications I am also a keen cyclist and festival go'er! I will be taking care of Kirsty's company Twitter, Facebook and Forum, so drop by and say hi to us. We are keen to hear your news, views and case studies.
