Minerals - Calcium
When you ingest the nutrient calcium through the foods you eat as part of a healthy diet, it binds together with the vitamin D in our bodies and helps to strengthen our teeth and bones.
If we don't get enough calcium in our diets, we can end up suffering from osteoporosis and brittle bones.
Calcium - where can I find it?
Most of us are aware that dairy products are a great source of calcium. However, because these types of foods are also generally high in saturated fats, it's important to try and source our calcium from other, less fatty food sources where possible. Therefore, you should try to include the following foods into your healthy diet regime:
- Nuts
- Broccoli
- Dried Apricots
- Mackerel
- Pulses
- Seeds
- Tofu
How much calcium?
In order to ensure that we have enough calcium in our diets for optimum bone and teeth health, we should aim to intake 800 mg per day.
