Free-From and Fabulous

Free from foods are a great way to follow a healthy diet while avoiding the issues brought about by food allergies and food intolerances

When I developed my free from ice cream (the ones I took on Dragons Den), it was in response to the requirements of my son Jacob, who suffers from food allergies and food intolerances. Jakey had a number of allergies to certain types of food, such as nuts and dairy. His nut allergy caused severe reactions, resulting in symptoms such as projectile vomiting, difficulty in breathing and blistering of the lips. His reaction to dairy products was less acute, but still caused the poor little thing a great deal of discomfort with this food intolerance leading to a noticeable exacerbation of his asthma and eczema.

Most of us however, myself included, are much more fortunate and on the whole can eat more or less what we please. However, even if you don’t suffer from food allergies or food intolerances, it can still be beneficial to avoid certain foods when planning your healthy diet.  The following articles will look at three different foods that I believe, if avoided, can have the greatest impact on our overall health and well being: dairy, wheat/gluten and processed sugar.
